History
The Australian Women's Weekly was started in 1933 by Frank Packer as a weekly publication. The first editor was George Warnecke and the initial mock-up was laid out by WEP (William Edwin Pidgeon) who went on to do many famous covers over the next 25 years.
The Weekly celebrated its 50th anniversary of publication in June 1983 and its 75th anniversary in the October 2008 issue. In the 1990s, PBL launched Women's Weekly versions in Malaysia and Singapore, which follow the Weekly's style while containing largely local content.

The magazine is usually 240 pages long and printed on glossy paper trimmed to A4 page size. It typically contains feature articles about the modern Australian woman. For many years, it included a lift-out TV guide amd other life-out sections, often cookbooks, knitting pattern books and other home-making guides.
In 1982, publication frequency was reduced from weekly to monthly. "Weekly" was retained in the name for reasons of familiarity and because a woman's "monthly" was a slang term for menstruation. The final weekly edition was dated 15 December 1982, followed by the first monthly edition dated January 1983. The TV guide was discontinued on introduction of the monthly format.

The current editor is Helen McCabe, who has held this position since August 2009. She has attempted to improve the Weekly's news coverage. In late 2009 she hired Jordan Baker, formerly a reporter and travel writer for The Sydney Morning Herald as news editor. Previous editors of the Weekly have included Deborah Thomas, Julie Zaetta, Ita Buttrose, Jennifer Rowe and Robyn Foyster. The current food editor is Pamela Clark.

Woman's Weekly magazines are also published in the UK and New Zealand
The New Zealand Woman's Weekly is a weekly New Zealand women's magazine published by APN News & Media. 2011, it had a circulation of over 80,000 copies. On 8 December 1932, journalists Otto Williams and Audrey Argall launched the magazine, with 7,000 copies on newsprint. Williams took the role of managing director, and Argall was the first editor. Due to financial difficulties they were forced to sell the magazine after three months. Ellen Melville ran the magazine for a few weeks, before the magazine's printer, F. S. Proctor, and his wife, took over. Early in 1933, solicitor Vernon Dyson bought it, and his wife Hedda became the second editor. At the end of the year it was sold again to Brett Print and Publishing Co., later New Zealand Newspapers, which also published the Auckland Star. Hedda Dyson was retained as editor. In the early 1980s, New Zealand Woman's Weekly's circulation peaked at around 250,000, before the Australian magazines Woman's Day and New Idea entered the New Zealand market. In 2007, the magazine celebrated its 75th anniversary with guest Prime Minister Helen Clark on the front cover.

The UK Woman's Weekly is published by IPC Media and edited by Diane Kenwood. It is the number-one-selling brand within the mature woman’s weekly magazine sector. Woman’s Weekly sells over 340,000 copies per week and goes on sale every Wednesday.

Discussing the longevity of the magazine, on the BBC Radio 4's Today programme, editor Diane Kenwood and social historian Dr Clare Rose explained that the magazine had been launched in 1911 to appeal to the growing class of office-employed women who sought a magazine for reading on their daily commute by train, tram and bus.
